A recent family study shows that ADHD has an 80%-90% hereditability. Accordingly, molecular genetic studies are currently being conducted. Most of the studies are investigating the enzyme or receptor-related genes in the dopaminergic neurotransmission pathways. By using the extended transmission disequilibrium test TDT ; , we studied 35 Korean trio families to test the allelic association between ADHD and D4 VNTR polymorphism. Methods and Materials: The subjects were recruited from the ADHD outpatient clinic at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Division of the Psychiatric Department of Dankook University Hospital, Cheonan, Korea, between March, 2001 and December, 2002. We diagnosed ADHD according DSM-IV criteria. All subjects were Korean. Subjects were excluded if there was any evidence of conduct disorder, mood disorder, anxiety disorder, Tourette's disorder, pervasive development disorder, mental retardation IQ 70 ; , and neurological conditions including epilepsy. The Korean version of the Child Behavior Checklist CBCL ; and the Korean version of the Conners Rating Scale were used to obtain parental reports of child behavior. Subjects were included in the study if they scored more than 2 standard deviations above the norm on the ADS. Subjects with high anxiety scores Spielberger trait state anxiety scale score 47 49 ; on the Korean version of the Spielberger trait-state anxiety scale for children were also excluded. Finally, 33 families, which consisted of a father, mother, and affected child trios ; were included in our study. The parents provided written informed consent. The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the Dankook University Hospital. Genotyping standard high salt extraction methods were used to isolate DNA from whole blood lymphocytes. The primer sequence used to amplify the 40 base pair sequence of the VNTR polymorphic loci is described. PCR amplification of the D4 40bp VNTR in the 3' untranslated region was carried out using the following pair of primers, sense: 5'-GCG ACT ACG TGG TCT ACT CG-3' and antisense: 5'-AGG ACC CTC ATG GCC TTG3'. Optical and EPR spectral studies of transition metal bearing minerals and transition metal doped glasses have been studying. Much effort has been made to the syntheses of nanomaterials with different shapes, such as nanowires, nanobelts, nanocubes and nanotubes. Nanowires and nanotubes could be important constituents of such devices as interconnects, or the devices could be integrated on nanowires and nanotubes. In corporation of guest atoms in such quasi one dimensional system during the growth process could make it possible to produce nanowires and nanotubes with novel structures and wide ranging electric and magnetic properties.
